Self-filing I-485
Hi,
Some questions concerning I-485 petition. Many thanks in advance to any information and reply.
My I-140 (employer-sponsored outstanding) has just been approved and I am preparing to file for I-485 on my own.
1- Is I-485 quite straightforward and people often file themself without hiring attorney? Are there particular tricks I should be aware and state in preparing the covering letter?
2- Besides attachments listed in the instruction (I-797, birth certificate, passport with visa, photo, employment letter, I-94, and marriage certificate for my wife), do I miss anything? Statement of no-criminal record necessary? What about I-134 affidavit of support (for my family members)?
3- Filling form I-485. Part 3, should I answer "Yes" to question "were you inspected by immigration officer (for last entry)"? What about "have you ever applied for permanent resident status in the U.S."? (I had petitioned for NIW I-140 once before and was denied)
4- Confusion over different numbers. Where can I located them and what formats are they?

5- Filling form I-131. Part 1 #3 "class of admission". Is it the type of my current visa?
6- H-1 with a pending I-485, if I travel to China and apply for re-entry H-1, how big is the risk of being delayed or even rejected? What about my family (H-4) go without me? Obviously, my real question is, is AP better?
