  • I-485 expected timeline

We filed I-130 in F2A category in January 2019, and I-485, 765, 131 along with other supporting forms and documents (affidavit of support, medicals) in June 2019 once the priority date became current. My I-485 was transferred from NBC to local field office (San Jose) in September 2019. I-485 status changed to ready to schedule for interview in January 2020, and I got EAD/AP combo card in February 2020. However, I have not received any update after that.

It has been about 19 months since we filed I-130 and about 15 months since we filed I-485. I have seen people getting scheduled for interview days or weeks after status changing to ready to schedule for interview, but it has been 9 months for us with no update on interview. Have others faced similar delays? Is this normal? What can I do to move things? We did not receive any RFEs. Would a lawyer be able to provide any additional help in this case?

The estimated time range for Family Based I-485 in San Jose is 12 Months to 35.5 Months, so there is not much that you can do but wait. I hope you get some good news soon. You should consider starting the EAD/AP renewal soon, it should be free for you with a copy of the I-485 notice, even if you do it after October 2nd.

    Time range pulled from: https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/
Nov 2018 - Package sent - EB - Texas Service Center
Day 1 - Package received at the lockbox
Day 999 - Card delivered to me - Aug 2021

It just really depends on your field office. Ours is in DC and we have been waiting for an interview for almost 10 months. I requested a status update through the website because our status changed and erased many months of waiting to be scheduled, but did not hear back in the three weeks they said it would take to hear back from them. Radio silence.
