avipin , There was a relaxation in the rule given in Oct 2020 which expired on Jun 2021. They again gave the relaxation in Jul 2021, around the week of the July 20th date since there were complaints that people were not able to use the Oct 2020 relaxation due to the Covid-19 lockdowns.

When I initially approached the authorities in early Jul 2021, I got the same answer that they cannot add name in the BC. I also had the same question as you and didn't find any online threads dealing with that situation. I was thinking of approaching the consulate to get info on what additional documents would be needed for changing DOB. While they were correcting the other details in my BC, I came to know about Jul 2021 relaxation and got my name added to the BC. It took me around 35 days to complete the whole process, most of it waiting for the BC to be ready after submitting the request for correction.

      sdds0522 - that is good news ! Thanks !

I couldn't find any info on this anywhere. Hoping that 2nd time relaxation still holds good. I will update here if I am able to get my name added to the BC.

        Based on this:

We cannot change the DOB if passport is held for more than 5 years. Then how is the Indian Consulate allowing DOB changes in the passport ?

@sdds0522 - Authorities are still accepting applications to add name to BC and I got my BC updated this week. Now doing the process to get it changed in my passport.

Were anyone able to get their DOB updated in SSN just with the corrected passport and without I797A?

I have updated using I797A/ I94 extension document. SSN requires an immigration document to validated. With Covid, it is becoming difficult to visit or schedule appointment with SSN office. Even the calls goes for a wait time of ~30 mins are more. So try to get this done through immigration document rather than wasting a trip to the SSN office.

avipin I have also submitted passport application with BC with correct DOB. I didnt submit SSLC copy. My original passport was issued based on SSLC. Hoping for the best. VFS at Huston sent my application to Embassy on Dec 14th.

              Please keep posted.

I am glad I found this thread. I am in similar situation(need to change place of birth). Please let me know if anyone has done the place of birth change.
My PD is current. But not able to apply because of this discrepancy.
emoorthy , any update on your case? Any reason for delays? Does police enquiry take more time?
@kiranjosephklm , you case seem to be done quicker. Was there any verification process back in India? If so, can you share the details.

Thank you to all writers of all previous post. Information shared is invaluable. I had the following questions and would really appreciate if someone can help me here:
                    1. If I am applying for change in DOB after 9 years of passport issuance are there any additional questions as to why the correction was not done earlier? What would be a good answer to that question?

                    2. Last alphabet of name as DOB and passport are slightly different, DOB uses 'Y' and all other documents including passport used 'I'. I can see VFS Global USA provides an option that such cases might not be considered as name change:

Has anyone used this situation and knows if it works in actual?

                    3. Does VFS usually guides at appropriate time if approval from passport chancellor is required or should I approach them pre hand? I have NY Indian Consulate nearest to my residence

Makes sense. I will then wait to get my extension done next month before I visit the SSA office.

I submitted both the correct BC and the SSLC copy with the wrong DOB. Luckily the Atlanta consulate conducted a consular camp at my location and I was able to get my documents verified and approved for VFS before even sending to them. I got my new passport on the 6th day after sending them the docs. Since it was already approved by the consulate the PP got printed immediately after VFS sent the package to Embassy for review. I got an email informing me about the police verification visit within next 3 weeks at my home town.

I have changed the POB in my passport, but for me that was a change from my house location (place within the city) to the city where the hospital I was born. For this I didn't had to provide any other proof other than the BC itself which itself had the city information. I think the BC itself is enough for the POB proof in some cases, but I've read somewhere if its outside the state or district they might ask for more proofs.

avipin Thank you so much for your response. In my case, it is a different district. Also I have older passport, so little skeptical if they will accept my request or not. In your case, did they give you the passport first before the police verification?
How was the verification process back home? What should we be prepared with? Please share any info that you can.

Not sure what you meant by older passport. I had wrong POB in 2 of my earlier passports and I changed it now on my 9th year on the second passport. You will come to know what additional proofs are required for a district change when you will be contacted by the Embassy. I guess POB changes could be done with a correct BC as most of us would have simply put a place of birth while applying for the initial passport or that matching our address/location from the SSLC. For state changes, they might need more info/proof as there will be many fraudulent cases they might be seeing daily. Anyhow wish you good luck with your try !

Yes I got my new passport before the police verification. It is yet to happen as of today. If nobody contacted from police, you need to contact them after 3 weeks. All passport police verification has been streamlined thru the commissioner's office and they have dedicated people to handle these requests from embassy. Nothing to be worried of, they will call in the contact number given and may visit the address or may ask someone to go and see them at their office.

avipin Thanks for the quick response. I am also on my second passport. Your info is a great help!
I will approach the Embassy to request the approval process.
