        1) You will get a letter from your Municipality that they have found your Birth Record
        2) Apply for your Birth Certificate by paying some nominal fees/fine (i guess around rs.250.00) to get your name included in Birth certificate.
        3) I guess it takes around 24 hours to update. Once you have your name registered, download from their website
        4) Apply for new passport. You would need to check off- "Change in Personal details" --> Change of Date of Birth
        5) Submit all the details + new birth certificate..
        6) VFS website did not update the detail that you should get an approval from Passport Counselor at your Consulate. This is where I had to call in all the available numbers in Embassy's website. I also Tweeted SFO consulate to get some response.
        7) Counselor will email you a Questionnaire for the discrepancy which is by now you will well versed to answer
        8) He will approve...
        9) It is easily a 1-2 months process to get this done. I think this will be a quite a long road to go. Maybe you can worth trying with what you have and you may get away without RFE.

id your BC had all the details correct - like your name and parent's name etc? If not, can you pls let me know what's the process you followed to get it corrected? -- Mostly correct except that my mother's initial was updated as "L" instead of "N". I tried to change it in BC but i could not succeed it. However i got a letter (digitized form) with Govt of Kerala embedded from village officer which says "one and the same" certificate. I have included that with my I485 in case if that creates any issue. For USCIS.. as long as it comes from a govt agency should be good and they are not going to verify the hierarchy of Village officer and Birth Registrar.
Sir, When updating the name in the passport ,should it be First Name and Last Name (or) is it ok to give only the first name printed? Appreciate your response

I would like to share my experience on changing the Passport DOB and POB inline with the BC.

            1) Applied at Washington DC via VFS...Provided all the BC details including new DOB and POB as per the BC
2)VFS called and asked for an email approval from the Indian embassy and other document like SSLC book copy, VFS shared the Indian embassy email id.
            3) Next day, i emailed the Indian embassy with all the explanations like reason for the change, why now, why i missed on initial passport application?
4)Indian embassy replied with an approval to go ahead.
5)Next day, via courier send the indian embassy approval email hard copy and SSLC book copy (used for the initial passport application).
6)In 3 weeks, received the new passport with new DOB and POB same as BC.

Now in process of updating the DOB in SSN.

                    Friends,

Thank you for all the information and this is helpful. I am also from Kerala and also thinking about changing my DOB in the passport and I have few questions on the Birth certificate issuance from municipality. Please answer those

                    1) Did you already had your name registered in the BC before issuance? If not while you requested to issue with your name, did they ask for any document for yourself to prove the name and DOB. I assume you would have given your SSLC copy which would have the incorrect DOB. If so did they really accept it or faced any kind of issues there?

                    2) I haven't got my BC issued yet and no name is registered yet. Also I only have my father's first name in there. Do you or anyone reading this thinks that I can use the downloadable version and use it for DOB correction in passport through embassy.

                    3) Has anyone changed their DOB in PP from Atlanta embassy recently? If so please share your experience with them.

                    4) Does anyone by any chance have the latest circular the PIA has on passport issuance. (Not the one dated 26 Nov 2015)

                    Thanks

You'll have to get the one and the same certificate from the Village office to get your name added to the BC. Getting one and the same certificate usually depends on how comfortable they are in giving the certificate and may request for multiple proofs of IDs. The DOB in the SSLC certificate may not matter there since the purpose is to get the DOB corrected everywhere. Once you have this certificate, then its straight forward process to add name / correct name in BC. It will take 2 - 3 weeks for the correction once the request is submitted.

If you have plans to get your name added in the BC, you may need to work on it immediately. The circular of birth and death states that last date of adding the name in the BC is 22.06.2020; name corrections are still possible, they won't add any new information in BC. Recently there was relaxation given on this date due to Covid. I don't have information related to how long the relaxation is for.

                          1) No, my name was not printed. I had to request for printing my name my paying some fees Rs. 250 at the Registrar (i have explained the process in my earlier post)
                          2) Yes, you can use the downloadable version from their website. I used the same and used the same version for I485

                          4) Can you share the latest circular?

Glad that my post is helping others who are having issues with Birth date/Certificate issues

                            My latest update -

April 2021- Got Passport with new DOB

July 2021- Applied for Visa extension with new DOB. Thought it could create any problems, but it got approved without any issues. I got new petition with updated DOB
July 2021- Applied for SSN with my petition. I also shown the receipts notices (I140, I485, I765, I131). The officer explained me that it could take few months to get this updated since it has to be verified with USCIS records.
09/28/2021- Got mail from SSN that new SSN has been issued.

Thank you sdds0522 and @rin8316 for your replies.
I just started the process to get my name added to the BC from the TVM corporation. Not sure if the relaxation period the Govt had given on cases where births were registered prior to 2015 as per above shared circular still holds good. I saw somewhere as it ended by 06/21/2021. Just trying my luck here and keeping my fingers crossed.

In case I don't succeed in this attempt to get my name added, do you think I can use the downloadable BC version without my name to correct DOB in PP application. Has anyone gone thru this situation where you had to submit the BC without your name to the Indian embassy? Are any other supporting docs needed in that case?

In case if it helps anyone in future with similar cases, I'm sharing these links that have info on the DOB correction in Passport

                                Thanks
