I had a similar situation. Please see my experience below:

1. DOB was wrong in school records w.r.t birth certificate.
2. All documents were as per school records.
3. Got BC after name correction, and small details correction.
4. Was in US. Applied for passport correction in CGI via VFS global. Got a mail that the request cannot be processed and to proceed should share 2 other documents with correct details - like Aadhar(updated via app)/Driving Licence (updated with help of a driving school). It took 3 months to receive the updated PP.
5. During Visa renewal, applied with correct details in DS160 and took DB appointment.
6. Visa was refused and asked to appear for In person interview with BC.
7. During interview, asked for the reason for this mistake and a few other general questions. Visa was approved and
The process took 2+ months.
8. Corrected PAN online in their website
9. For CBSE marklist correction, request was sent from school which was rejected. With this rejection letter, filed a case and court asked CBSE to correct the marklist.

Hi Yiman68705, I am also in the same situation as yours. My Visa was refused and asked me to appear in person with Original BC. Can you share what questions they asked and how many days after interview , you got Visa ? Your response is highly appreciated. I hope you know what I am going through now

Dear All, I had the DOB issue because of the issue in my school records. I am on I-140. My priority date is 2016. Looks like I can't file GC in near future because of the current GC backlogs, but I took a chance and tried to correct my DOB in passport and everywhere at the earliest - I think most people do it at the time of GC filing. By Gods grace everything went well.

Jan 2022 - I got my passport corrected using the birth certificate with correct DOB, CGI asked some clarifications in the email, I provided it in the email.
I was not sure If I need to correct it in my I-94 straightaway. I took a 20 minutes online appointment with ******s firm, the attorney told me, I can inform my company and file a new petition or I can wait till my I-979 expiration and update it in the extension petition. Attorney told nothing to worry and its a common case. I chose second option, waited till visa expiration.

Nov 2023 - I corrected my employer records with new DOB (it changed DOB in my medical insurace) and filed the extension petition with correct DOB. Immigration team in my company asked for the justification, I provided it. They filed the petition, but I am not sure they submitted my justification letter, the petition is not visible for me.

Jan 11 2024 - Updated my petition to premium as my DL was expiring end of Jan

Jan 20 2024 - I was watching my petition status during these days and it looked it went into RFE mode in the morning, in the night it changed to Approved.

Jan 30 2024 - I got my approval letter soft copy from my company. The original was not available and SSN was not updated. But I thought I would take a chance went to DL office as it was about to expire on that day

The officer was nice, she issued me drivers license based on the corrected date in the I-94 in the approval letter copy, after consulting with her manager.

Jan 31 2024 - I got the original approval letter.

Feb 1 2024 - Went to SSN office, it got corrected overnight, the DOB is not printed in my SSN, so new SSN card was not necessary.

Feb 2 2024 - To verify, I tried to create a new SSN account online with my DOB, it didn't let me .

Feb 5,2024 - I could create new account (https://secure.ssa.gov/) with corrected DOB, I went to my profile page and I see my correct DOB there.

By God's grade everything went well in my case, all praise and glory to him! I know the pain going through this. Hope and pray everyone will have good time during the process.

I am trying to get my DOB corrected in my passport.Can someone tell me what is the birth date used in online passport application and vfs application?. I am getting "date of birth is invalid" error while trying to submit the application in vfs website. Can someone pls help?

I have messaged you.. You can start with correcting passport. Once passport is corrected, you can correct other documents. I messaged you in detail.

I think i have messaged or talked with atleast 4-5 people so far and explained the steps i have taken. I would like to outline my timelines about my Journey in updating my DOB.

My Date of Birth in official documents were updated as July instead of June while year of birth was correct. I had Birth certificate which is an old stamp paper with dates written in ink and with digitization, I could get a downloaded version Muncipality website without my name.


Oct 2020- December 2020 - I was looking for different options to how to get DOB changed or getting NABC from my municipality. I found that there are many online legal services firm based out of Delhi who does these services. I approached couple of them (one name i can remember is Legal Nexus). Both of them echoed same opinion that they are finding difficult to get things done from Kerala and the office follow strict rules. I found that to be true when i tried my luck with local members. This is because most of the documents are converted to Digital and it is not easy to get things updated.

Jan 2020 - I decided to go through proper route of obtaining the Birth Certificate. I was told by the staff at the office that they will conduct search of my name and DOB for 3 years prior and after my DOB to see if they can correct match. If they could not find, then only they can issue NABC. Since my name was already there, they issued digital print by paying 15.00 rupees. Once i received the version, i applied for updating passport.

Feb 2020- I sent all the documents to Indian Consulate General in California. There is field in passport application which says "Change in personal details" within that there are options like- Change in DOB, Change in Place of Birth, etc. Though i followed all the checklist, my application was kept on hold by their 3rd party processing team (i forgot their name) saying that they needed some approval letter from passport officer. THAT WAS NOT LISTED IN THEIR CHECKLIST!.

This is where things started getting south as i could not get hold of anyone in the consulate about this letter. Remember, this is the pandemic period so that also made things worse. I did all the means of communication - phone, email, tweet and also calling other consulate locations - Houston, New York. One day, i was able to get someone on the phone while calling Emergency number for Covid purposes. That officer gave me an email for passport officer (his personal email address). Thus i was able to communicate with him. He sent me a questionnaire which had about 10-15 questions mostly with regards to the purpose for changing the personal details. Finally it was approved. REMEMBER: During this entire process, your original passport will be at the Consulate.

April 2020- I got my passport with updated DOB. It took easily 2-3 months. Then I used this passport and new Birth Certificate for applying for I485.

June 2020- I got my visa extension using my new Passport. For some reasons, they used old DOB stamped on my passport and i got extension in old DOB while Passport had new passport. Somehow, it did not face any issues during my international travel.

September 2020- i changed my DOB on my SSN using my passport. Also changed DOB in my bank records

Dec 2020- EAD and Advance Parole issued

April 2022- Green Card issued

Once Green Card was issued, i changed my DOB in my driving license. In between during my travel to india for vacation, i changed my DOB in Aadhar and in Pan Card.

Note- While talking with some people who had same issues, i got to know passport issuance for personal details update is restricted or often delayed sometimes. Most of the times they are unresponsive. If you have any travel plans, please think before making these changes.
