My family received notice for biometrics appointment on 16th March, however I have not received it. I waited all these days thinking I might get it. Can I travel with my family? I tried asking Emma, it said nothing scheduled for me. My EAD is expiring in April 9th and I feel like I might lose my job. Is anyone else in the same situation like me and what did you do? Thanks!
Same happened in my case. my family received first. I received after a week. I am assuming that after contacting Emma only I got mine with a different date. Good luck

Or can we still get our GC when the FAD becomes current even with an expired EAD?

If your EAD expires you can't work legally in the US. I will start my renewal process about five or even six months before the expiration date.

GC can be obtained with an expired EAD/no EAD as well. The benefit with GC EAD is that you can continue working even after the EAD expiration as far as EAD is filed timely before expiration, unlike other EADs.

That's good to know so everyone here can be relaxed that there will never be a situation where we go out of work provided we file renewal in time. Having said that its best to maintain the non immigrant visa anyways.

I am not even sure what the real advantage of the EAD is for the primary applicant because changing jobs is not straight forward. I have heard we can take a second job. lol

For people on L-1 visa, if they lose the job, they can find another job with an EAD in hand. I am not sure about the timelines to find another job for those on an H1b visa.

For H1/L1, there is no real need to maintain the non-immigrant visa and one can work off of EAD. The only reason that attorneys give for being on the non-immigrant visa is if the underlying GC gets rejected, so that one can dispute or refile or something; but its also a way for them to mint money coz EAD renewal doesn't require attorney's help and can be done on own. I have friends who had been working on EAD for the past 10 years or so without issues. Is it 100% safe - no; but good enough.

Also switching jobs with EAD is very straight forward where only a I485 J form needs to be filed with underlying conditions met like similar job and title etc.

Again everyone situation is different and you need to weigh in the pro's and cons.

                        • If anyone has a real experience of job change while going through the GC process, please share. The definition of similar job (AC 21) is subjective. I want to know if I switch job to a new employer with the same job profile / function as the current employer but have a significantly higher salary and a higher title with my new employer - will this go against the AC 21 rule ?

Question for forum, does anyone got to know about their Biometric appointment schedule from EMMA before they got the receipt?

I was chatting with Emma once for my biometrics appointment, they mentioned that the appointment is scheduled by local ASC (field office) & not from that guy's office (I assume NBC) & they do not have access to request/schedule appointment from local ASC (field office).

Strangely I got appointment notices in mail after 5 days.
