In I-944 form, Part 3, Item 1, it asks the income of applicant and each household member:
My wife and I filed a joint tax return. As per instructions I see two options:
1. Enter the "total gross income" from line 7 of our joint tax return. This means we will end up entering the exact same amount for both 1A and 1B. And this would be our combined income entered twice, which could be potentially misleading? but that's what the instruction says.
2. Other option is to enter the value from W-2. We have separate W-2s. So we can go for this option I think. We would probably need to attach our W-2s even though it's not asked. I feel like everywhere the instructions focus on IRS transcripts, and they seem to trust that more than the W-2. Plus my wife has two W-2s. So the value we enter wouldn't match exactly if the officer tries to verify, because it would match the sum of the two W-2s.
Which option is better?
Total income from tax return or item 1 from W-2.
