  • When to apply for renewal EAD+AP?

    Hi everyone,
My combo card will expire on Oct 23 2021. I have a few questions

    - When is the time to file for renewal?
    - If I want to renew also the AP, do I need to file both I-765 and I-131, or just one?
    - Do you guys do it by yourself or have an attorney file it for you? Is it easy to do it myself?

    Thank you

    1) If you're renewing the combo card (EAD/AP), then you can submit the renewal package 180 days prior to expiration (NOT the same as six months).
    2) If you want to renew both, then both forms I-765 and I-131 should be submitted as part of the same package.
    3) It's easy enough to do without a lawyer.

    Good luck.

I've done it myself for both I-765 and I-131 for my wife, twice each now. It's not difficult especially if you have the original forms to work from. Just be sure to look up the most recent forms from the USCIS website to insure you are submitting the most up to date version. You can find the version or expiration date at the top right. The current form has an expiration date of 4/30/2022 so it appears that it's good for quite some time.

Thanks so much! Did you have to pay the whole fee again?

The original filing and subsequent renewals were part of the I-485 Marriage based adjustment of status so no fee was required for either. We just needed to supply copies of original receipts.
