i485 Adjustment of status Interview- Approved!
I started my adjustment process in September of 2019 (Baltimore Field Office), filed concurrently, and got my EAD in January 2020. Got scheduled for my i485 interview for November 24th, but cancelled due to surge in COVID numbers. Rescheduled for January 11th.
The day came, I appeared at the location with my US citizen spouse with documents in hand. (we had bank statements, lease agreement, renter's insurance, auto insurance, life insurance, Spotify family account), we didn't have any travel history together because of the shutdowns and quite honestly, we were broke for most of 2018/2019 lol. We had maybe 10 pictures (none with family, as she's a bit distant from her family and mine lives abroad.
Anyways, we were called in at 2:45 PM by an older gentleman by the name Seth. He was pretty straightforward, asked for our supporting documents right out the gate, asked to see only the documents that have both of our names on it and none that has only either one of our names. That instruction alone dropped our documents down to like 4. I was pretty flustered and anxious, so I forgot to give him our pictures (10 in total), and he didn't even ask!!!
He asked basic questions without directing it to anyone in particular, my wife was incredible, she answered most of the questions and only asked me about her previous marriage, her ex-husband's name, her father's name etc. It was quick. Then he proceeded to yes/no questions which took most of the time spent in the room.
After asking the questions, he asked if our marriage was over two years, we responded affirmatively. He then said, "I'm going to run a quick background and everything comes out clean, I will approve you for 10 years". Whaaaat!
While we're waiting he asked me where I work, and I told him, he then said he had just bought his new vehicle at my company last week, we then started arguing about what brand was better between Toyota and Volkswagen lol.
After about 2 minutes, he said, "I'm going to approve you for a regular 10 years, are you happy?" I said YES I'M ECSTATIC!
He said congratulations, you can wait outside for 15 minutes, in case I need anything else from you. We waited for 20 minutes and we were on our way home!
I didn't submit any pictures, no awkward questions, and in under 30 minutes, I was approved.
Immediately, I checked my phone, and my status changed on the website. GOD IS GOOD!
Card is being produced and should be in hand in a few days.
