  • I-485 (AOS) - Birth certificate and passport has different place of birth

    Hi,
I have submitted my I-485 and need inputs in birth certificate.
My place of birth information in passport and birth certificate doesn't match. My passport says Rourkela, Orissa and birth certificate has Kanpur, UP.
Can I use this birth certificate and do you see any issue arising because of this discrepancy.
    Please suggest.

I was told by my attorney to fill the forms use place of birth as mentioned in the passport. if by chance RFE comes you can explain it is still within same country , birth certificate was issued in different city because Indian system was not well connected those days..

Do you have any supporting evidence for your place of birth? like hospital discharge note? If your place of birth is as on passport, then you should try to get either the birth certificate or a non-availability of birth certificate statement from the concerned authorities in Rourkela.

I have school transfer certificate from Rourkela, but municipal authority is not ready to issue BC or NABC. What should i do?

Thanks for your response. Do you had the same issue or know someone who faced the same issue. Most of the people or blogs i read, say any discrepancy between birth certificate and passport will lead to rejection.

I do not know anyone had the same issue personally but your green card is issued based on country of birth , so should not have any problem if there is a discrepancy for city or state, that is what information I gathered.
