  • I-944 - Household Income - Health Insurance & Education Question

I have a few questions about filling I-944.

I became a US citizen through marriage 2 years ago. I want to bring my father to the US from Turkey and want to get a green card for him. He is a 73-year-old retired doctor who is in good health and does not have any financial obligations or debt. My mother is deceased and I have no siblings.

He is currently in the US visiting us on a tourist visa. We want to apply for his green card while he is here. However, I am having a hard time filling out the I-944 form.

Here are my questions: - on I-944:
    1. Page 3 - Household Income: It is asking for the total income from the most recent federal income tax returns. How would I answer this question if my father never lived or worked in the US and therefore never filed federal tax returns in the US?
    2. Page 7 - Health Insurance: My father has health insurance in Turkey but does not have American health insurance as he is not living here. We will buy health insurance once he gets his green card but before then he only has Turkish health insurance. So would I answer that question (question 15) as Yes or No? I am asking because if I say yes, then I would have to answer the questions underneath asking about Premium Tax Credit, annual deductible, and annual income. I would not be able to answer those questions as his Turkish health insurance cover all his medical expenses so there is no deductible.
    3. Page 11 - Your Education and Skills: My dad has received his doctorate degree back in 1975 and he is currently retired. When I submit evidence do I have to get his credentials evaluated by naces (dot) org. Even though he is not planning to practice medicine in the US?
Would it be enough if I submit his diploma?

    Thanks for your time.

The administration will likely appeal this decision. It could get overturned, which could mean that, like last time, the administration will apply the new rules retroactively to June when the rule first took effect. If your i-944 still needs some documentation, you could wait until USCIS updates their guidance on their website and read what they put out there. I would get life insurance elsewhere with simpler terms and conditions if I were you.

Form I-944 is no longer needed. This is an old thread.
