  • Conditional Residence Status

I have been searching all over the web but haven’t been able to find any information relevant to my case. I am a Cuban citizen, and got married to an American citizen in Cuba, 2 and 3 months ago. I came to the United States to be with her a year and a half ago and got a conditional residence card, with I would had to change into a permanent one by the end of this year by means of filling a joint petition for removal of those conditions. However, our marriage didn’t work out as we expected and, even though we are in good terms, I moved out to an apartment so we are no longer living together since 3 months ago. We are trying to get a divorce, but the law in North Carolina states that we can only do that after a year of separation. I would like to know what is the best way for me to proceed regarding the removal of conditions of my immigration status. I would appreciate any help or guide any of you could give me. Have a great day.

If you are separated and don't intend to stay married, your green card will be revoked. For permanent residency you both have to go for an interview as a married couple.
