  • I-485 Marriage Based Interview Finished - mixed feelings...

We had our interview today! Althought i have mixed feelings about it...

Green Card Interview through marriage to citizen (my wife).
Interview took place in Newark Field Office in New Jersey, we had it scheduled at 2:00PM, due to
covid restriction we had to arrive 15 mins before, entrance to building, security check up went super smooth, officers were really nice, they all wished us good luck with interview

When we arrived on 14th floor of the building, we had to go to registration, lady took first page of my interview notice, she checked our temperature and she told us to sit and wait till someone will call us. We were second to last on this day (just one couple came after us).

Officers were calling people inside for interviews, some people were separated, some not, we waited around 1 hour and... lady officer called us to - registration window instead to interview room (!) We were only couple called to window, she asked us for all documents, statements, bills, pictures etc. Basically everything we had to prove our marriage is bona fide. We gave her everything and she told us to wait until we get called inside. That was very strange and we actually got more nervous because other people were normally called to interview rooms.

After 10 minutes we were called inside by same lady officer - she was nice and professional, she went straight to questions - she asked my wife how and where we met, where we went on our first date and what we did after, then she asked me about my wife’s bday, her siblings (who is the oldest), she asked when we got married, when we moved in together etc - pretty typical, simple questions, some dates but nothing big. We had few moments we didn’t know who officer was asking because she was doing it randomly, once me, once my wife and at some point we answered one question together...

After that, she asked me all Yes/No question from form and she gave us some documents back, she kept some pictures and she gave us ‚Notice of Interview Results’ with ‚Your case is being held for review’ checkbox and she said we will receive information if any documents are needed or we will have second interview...

I’m a bit worried because our case is super clear, we had tons of documents, pictures with both families and friends, and even planning church wedding next year with venue, dj, dress and flowers paid off already and lady didn’t even tell us how interview went or if I get approved GC What do you think guys, what we can expect now?

and the worst part - she forgot to give us our Social Security Cards :| both of them... so I have to call them tomorrow and pray they will give it back to us otherwise we have to call Social Security Office for replacements. That’s our fault of course because I didn’t check all documents on spot but at home...

I don't think they usually tell if you did a good interview or if they going to approve, so I think this is normal. You just have to wait for the approval. Good luck, I hope you get it soon.
