Drivers License - Texas - AOS (I-485)

Hi,

I just want to share my experience of obtaining Drivers License if you have applied for Adjustment (I-485/ I-130 / I-131) and waiting on the EAD and GC.

After receiveing NOA (I-797C) I scheduled an appointment with DL Office in Texas. They asked for my passport and ran a SAVE Verification. Due to change in status, SAVE Verification did not come out and they went on to do 2nd stage Verification which requires 5-7 Business days.

After 7 business days, i looked up online to check my SAVE Verification, it said the case is returned to the DPS office. I called the customer service and they informed that the case has been verified and it has been approved so you can go and get your drivers license.

I went and they gave me my drivers license with 1 year validity.

That's really helpful. I went through the same process and got license today after secondary verification.

In my case they triggered the secondary verification only after I insisted during my original visit. Otherwise the DPS officer just kept saying DL cannot be renewed. Not all officers are aware that you can renew based on pending I-485.

I had to renew my license and my EAD was set to expire in 2 months or so. I expected to get a DL for 1 year or 2 months. To my surprise, I received a 6 year without the "limited term" legend.
