Dear Attorney, In 2007 August, I was moving out of Pittsburgh to Virginia on a new job and had got the Internet disconnected at home. I had to use the internet, so went to the nearest Marriot when I stayed for 2 -3 days when I first came to Pittsburgh job to check mails as I knew that there is a guest computer in the lobby. Honestly I was not aware that I should not be using it, so I was using it and looking at bank accounts and credit card statements. The maid who was cleaning the lobby probably felt something suspicious when I minimized my browzer window and the manager called the police who called the FBI. I was asked questions like what was I doing there etc. They took samples of my emails from my google mail and copied some credit cards from me and checked the addresses where I frequently travel from the GPS in my car and the FBI officer asked if I am hiding anything. I said no and he adviced me not to come there again and if I have need internet, suggested me to goto Panera bread etc where there is free wifi. The hotel manager apologized me. After this I went to the Police station to ask few questions for my new H1B transfer where I had to mentioned if I was ever convicted. At that time the officer told me that the case is closed or there is no case and that I am not convicted and that I am good man and asked me not to visit police station again. After that I took it easy and relaxed and till today never went to any hotels or places to do free internet.
Now, I am little worried about my I-485 filing. This is a family based case. I have marked every question related to criminal background check (PART 3 of the I485 form) as NO. I am not sure if I am doing it correct. I do not want to get into trouble by giving misleading information but based on what the officer has told me, I marked all questions as NO. All of my family is here and I do not want to get into a situation where my I485 is denied due to misleading information. Other than this incident to which I do not know the exact answer, there are no incidents other than speeding violations. No speeding or any other violations in the last 3 years after the Marriot hotel incident.
Any advice and help in this regard is deeply appreciated.
Please, Please advice on how to proceed with this.
