  • I-485 RFE to show parentage in Birth Cert

    Hi

I just received a rfe saying I need to submit a copy of my birth certificate showing my parentage. At first I was quite confused about this, since my BC has my parents' names. Then I realized that the names are not the same in BC and my I-485 forms and passport. Boy, USCIS sure has there cryptic way of expressing things. Was anybody in similar situation? I'm planning to have my parents send me a notarized affidavit from my country establishing my relationship with them with the correct names. Should this be enough to convince them.

Make sure you submit at least two affidavits. Also school records showing either of the parents names.

Thanks. You mean one for each parent? My school certificates for secondary shows only my father's name. Also My mom is decesed. Do you think I need to get an affidavit from a relative on her behalf.

Sorry to hear about your mom, may the good Lord give her a place in Heaven. You should get a couple of affidavits from your relatives, it will help. I also got an RFE and used school certificates and that was acceptable to them.
        All the best !
