I-130 procedure

Hi, I am about to apply for adjustment of status. In connection with that I intend to submit form I-130, since I intend to travel to Germany sometime next year. Since I do not have a special date in mind, and I am not even sure if I will travel at all, I wonder how to proceed.
What happens if submit I-130 and don't travel after all?
What if I enter on date for travel and travel actually at another date?
If I don't submit I-130, how long am I stuck here until I can travel freely again? (I can't affort to pay another 350 buck just for this form)

I-130 is the petition for alien relative (Family based green card).
I-131 is advance parole, that you file along with adjustment of status.

Therefore, I am assuming your questions are about I-131.

1. Nothing happens.
2. That's OK.
3. Until you get the green card approved, or if you are on valid H or L visa.

If you are unlawful in US and waiting for your AOS, Do NOT travel on an I-131, you may end up with a 3 or 10 year ban!
Wait till you get your GC.
