  • Interview done, No case updates!

    Hey guys,

I have had an AOS marriage case filled in October 2020. Surprisingly I had my interview scheduled on 08/25 which I didn't expect. I assumed it will be some time early next year.
Anyway, the interview went fine I guess. The officer asked us a lot of questions though.
Was more interested in asking questions than looking at any documents. At the end of the interview, the IO said they need to review the documents one more time at the end of the day since they have other interviews. They made us sign the conditional green card form and explained how the CGC works. Not sure if that's a good sign.

Since then the case status still says Interview Scheduled with no changes at all. I don't know if that's normal or not, but I'm getting a bit worried. I also have an international trip scheduled on the 15th of this month that I scheduled a while ago to go see my family since I have an active EAD/AP, but I'm worried now if that will be an issue. Would it be?
Is it normal for the case status not to update? does that mean we're not approved? even so shouldn't it say interview completed?

I'm sorry for all the questions, I just keep reading here about people getting their status updated the same day and that is making me anxious. Thanks!

First of all Congratulations on getting your interview done sooner than expected; and it does seem like it went very well otherwise they wouldn't have had you sign the conditional green-card and explained it all to you. That's definitely a good sign.
We have an interview in about a month from now and our case tracker's last update is: We received your case! Which was over 2 years ago! I got to learn that some accounts, or some updates just don't reflect on the case tracker online. I had a lot of steps completed but the case tracker doesn't reflect it.

You could've been approved but the website didn't update. I would suggest chatting with "Emma" and asking for the latest update on your case. There's a change the case is still being reviewed; this is also kinda normal; it has barely been a week since the interview.

My advise though is not to travel right now at all.. Just in case you get an RFE or anything happens. Also you EAD will expire/end once your GC is issued. Make sure you have an answer or an update from USCIS before you leave the country and good luck

      Hi,
Updating case status in the online will take some time delay. But, it does not mean that there is no progress on your petition/ file. I recommend to wait for some time to hear back from the concern office. As other member suggested, it is not really suggestable plan to travel before you get any update from the office.
      Thanks

We canceled our trip abroad this summer because our GCs were in the final step before approval. We don't know what can happen if they approve the GC just before or during the trip.

I know the EAD/AP will no longer be valid if the GC is approved so we didn't want to risk it being abroad without a valid document to return to the USA.

I remember reading a post about someone that was traveling, GC approved and a family member either mail it (gasp) or bring the card to them so they can return to the USA. I may be wrong about this, it was a couple of years ago.

I hope someone with more experience can give you better/more information. Good luck.

Hi there, how long were you married at the time of the interview? Because I think this is a factor.

Thank you all. I guess I have to wait then. I was just not sure cause my lawyer was saying it's totally fine and safe to travel with the AP although everything online is saying otherwise.
I was also looking at other cases where people literally had no status updates after the interview for over a year. So if that is the case how come you can't travel?

I think my best bet is to wait for at least 30 days from the interview date and see if no changes. Thanks again!

It is safe to travel with AP but I never received a clear answer to what happens if I'm abroad and we receive the GC approval. What they say online is that the AP is no longer valid. So, in this case, what will happen?:
              - can we board the plane back to the US with the AP? I guess so, don't think the airline can see if it is still valid or not.
              - the officer at the entry point will check the AP, can see the GC is approved, can they let us in if we don't have the GC with us? I can't find an answer to this.

We decided to not travel this summer for this reason.

3 weeks now since the interview and still no updates at all.
Should I call USCIS? Or is that too soon?

Does anyone have a citation showing that Green Card issuance automatically invalidates the Advance Parole? Are we sure that the AP isn't still valid until its expiration date?
