  • Does the FBI need all fingers to be scanned in order to pass?

    Hi all,

We just had our first finger scan last Sept 13, 2010 (exactly 2 weeks ago) and haven't heard if it was denied or approved by the FBI.

I had no problems with the finger scanning but my wife, unfortunately, had issues. First of all, my wife has small but good and soft hands/fingers. It was moisturized well and we actually prepared for the FP.

However, even with good preparation, both of her pinky fingers didn't even scan. The machine denied or gave an error when scanning her pinkies. The officer tried so hard to make it happen but it did not.

The officer told her that the FBI will decide if the prints are good or bad.

So we left the building with my wife only having 8 fingers scanned in the machine that the FBI will analyze.

    Here are my questions:

    1) Are all fingers required in order to pass the FP so we can move on with our I-485 approval?

    2) Are there people with the same situation (some fingers did not scan) but passed the FP FBI clearance?

    3) Let's say, for example, my wife failed the FP test, how and when will we know that she needs to retake the FP? Is it by letter or email?

It has been two weeks and we are kinda worried if we passed it or not.

    Thank you.

    I-140, I-765, I-131 are all approved

They usually do all the fingers. FBI will not contact you, USCIS will contact you is there is a problem. It usually takes a few weeks for the FBI to run the back ground check and then respond to USCIS.
    Good Luck !

      Hey, Thank you!

I hope the FBI will let this slip so we won't have to retake it.
