  • Can i file a tax return with new SSN for a prior year?

Once a person receives a Social Security Number and Card after a successful Adjustment of Status, can they use the SSN to file a tax return for the previous year, while the application was still pending?

This is for someone who acquired a green card as an asylum seeker. She has been in the US for 2 years before getting her SSN, and working illegally I guess. So she wants to know if she can file a tax return for a prior year before getting her SSN.
