  • USC petitioning for Mom- i-130 approved, AOS interview coming up

    Hi,

So I filed i-130 for my Mom together with i-485 (she's an overstay of B2). The i-130 has been approved.
We have an AOS interview coming up next week. So now I'm wondering - can the i-485 be denied? When I check it's status online it says:

On October 13, 2010, we mailed you a notice that we had registered this customer's new permanent resident status. Please follow any instructions on the notice. Your new permanent resident card should be mailed within 60 days following this registration or after you complete any ADIT processing referred to in the welcome notice, whichever is later. If you move before receiving your card, please call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

Does this mean the i-485 was also approved? Then why the interview? And I heard some horror stories about the background check dragging for months...
Should we be happy or not yet?

Sounds a bit confusing. I am sure you will know next week. As for background checks, it used to take 2 to 3 years for FBI but now its just a matter of months.
    Good Luck!

      Yaaaaay!

OMG - you're not going to believe this. So USCIS called me last night to say that as a parent of USC my Mom was granted Permanent Resident status and we don't need to come in for the interview because 'it will be a waste of time, the card should be in the mail over the next few weeks'
      Yippeeee!!!
