Translations - Certified translators needed?

I am going to apply for adjustment of status and several documents are not in English. I was told that I need certified translators for that, but I also know people who did the translation themselves and presented a sort of affidavit claiming that they are competent on both languages.
Can somebody tell me something about it? If I am able to save some money on the translations, that will be awesome.

Look at https://www.immihelp.com/translation...s-immigration/ where they explain about that. You don't have to use any service or pay any fees for translations. Anyone competent in English and the other language can do it and just follow the CERTIFICATION language cited on the website.

I don't recommend that a beneficiary translate their own documents because, USCIS may see any minor error as an attempt at fraud. It is better for you if someone else can be found at fault if there is any mistake.

I am myself a translator ( French). I strongly recommend a professional to translate and certify your documents.Google and see if you can find some offices who do Brazilian translations. I saw many immigration cases which have been complicated because of error of translation. Be careful. It will cost you less than having problem with USCIS during the process of your papers! Good luck.
