Looking for some guidance as I prepare documents for I-485 filing. My name was changed as a minor (14 years old) - my birth certificate has old name but all my documents since age 14 have new name. During name change, my parent filed sworn affidavit (I have the original copy of sworn affidavit) saying he is making the name change, and it has stamp of government official. But there was no newspaper notification or gazette notification of my name change,
Given it's been 20+ years since this, is the sworn affidavit sufficient to show proof of name change? Or do I have retroactively file a newspaper notification (this seems not required). My lawyer says I have to show what the process is and whether it was followed - but I don't know what the process was 20+ years ago, and if newspaper notification was mandatory (it seems it is mandatory now).
Please let me know what I can do here.
