Retrogession

Hello everyone i will like to know if somebody can explain me what is Retrogression on the visa Bulletin, i took a look on the december of 2010 bulletin and it says 01AUG2010, i already filled out my AOS package and they took my fingerprints and photo my priority date us 07JAN2010 i will like to know why it suddenly went back to 01JAN08. Can somebody talk to me about it?

You should probably do a google search and read. Will try to keep it short and explain.

Every year each country has a limited number of visas for the categories available. These visas are available on a quarterly basis. Once those visas are used, they reset on Oct 1st.

If a particular country does not use the visas, the visas cascade down to heavily used countries at the end of the fiscal year. Similar things happen on a quarterly basis between each countries own categories. Least used category numbers will cascade down to heavily used ones.
