  • AOS for F1 Student Procedures...

    Hi there,

Thanks for all the information I have gotten just by reading the forums. Im hoping someone give me an outline of the procedure for an F1 student (currently in status) getting married to a US citizen and applying for work visa.

I am an F1 student (in USA for just over 2 years). We have been together 2 years and plan to get married at City Hall very soon.

What are the next steps involved? Is it as simple as just filling out the relevant forms and providing the required paperwork?

Basically I need to know the steps we need to take from marriage to application for Adjustment of status.

We want to do this without hiring a lawyer. Do you think this is possible?

Thankyou for any help and information.

    You don't need a lawyer.
File an I-130, I-765 along with I-485. Make sure you have lots of wedding pictures, rent/mortgage joint receipts. Cell phone bills, bank statements, insurance......

I was on an F-1 and got married to my USC fiance while on OPT . We dated for a little over 2 years. we got married at city hall and immediately filed for adjustment of status. I received my new EAD and Advance parole within 2 months of filing and our interview is scheduled for April. We did not hire an attorney ..the forms are pretty straightforward but a few tricky things here and there. Read the instructions carefully and fill out a rough packet before you mail the forms and documents.

good luck.. it will be okay
