Hi everyone here. Because this forum gave me so much needed information I want to share my experience with you.
Thu, April 21 we had our interview in Buffalo, NY. My husband applied for my change of status in January, 2011 for me. We got married in November, 2010. On march 1-st I got my fingerprints done. and month later we got the interview letter.
Guys we got so stressed out with this interview - FOR NO REASON. And I'm very organized and I kept each peace of paper possible. Basically being married only for 5 months I had evidence like we were married for years
Our appointment was at 1.45 PM. We got there earlier around 12, because we checked out from the hotel at 11. We had breakfast and after we decide to go there, because outside was very cold and windy like is not tomorrow.
Anyway we pass the security and we were waiting in waiting area on the first floor, for 20 min or so. Sitting there I remembered that I forgot my pills in the car. Went back across the street on the parking, and coming back and passing again the security, the guy just asked how long we have to wait.
Was 12.30 and he suggested to go check in my application and to go upstairs and wait there. He said, they might be not so busy and they can take you before time. Good, I said to myself. We went in the waiting room upstairs and sitting there we start looking in the magazines. After 40 min (was ~ 1:10) A nice guy coming out and called my name and pleased me in.
He was very serious, not smiling at all, but very pleasant. We sat in the office and he ask us to stand and swore. And basically I expected questions and questions, but wasn't so. He asked my name and DOB, place. He checked our ID's. He asked my husband DOB and place of birth. After basic questions, with check mark NO . He asked my husband how many kids he has and when he got divorce (just to make sure the info is correct in forms) and he asked me if I still work at the same company as a manager and how many visas I had before (3- J1) and if any of them where with 2 year rule. I said NO and he asked what evidence we have.
I was so good prepared I put my huge folder (5lb) full with papers and stuff on the table and asked him : where to start sir? what would you like to see first. He said it doesn't matter so I started with utility bills (electric and cable) in our names. Continuing with bank account statements, letter from the bank, credit card, sam's club cards, car insurance, joint tax return for 2010 our reservation at the hotel from the trip to NYC, museum tickets, letter from my boss (to prove my employment status), payroll for the last 3 months with full time employment. Letters from 3 friends. I asked him if he needs our marriage certificate and our birth certificates, he mentioned that has them so need for. (my lawyer submit them in very organized form)
I had much more info, but he told me it's enough I have everything from you guys. I said ok, but don't you want to see our cards, letters from my family and friends sent from abroad? our pictures? He said NOPE, I have enough . Putting the transparent files in my folder, the interviewer stands up and tells us : Congratulation wait for your card in the mail within 10 business days.
I even didn't realize when and how this happened. Was so excited, He told us Happy Holidays and have a nice day!
No question, how we met, what we did and how we did. I read a lot on forums and asked many people who went through this process and actually was much easier than we expected to be.
Guys don't panic, all people who's in this process just collect lots of evidence. bring proofs and copies of everything you have and you'll be safe.
Wish everybody good luck and GOD BLESS!
Thank you!
