  • Sharing my AOS Interview experience

    First of all,

This forum is great and thank you everyone for keep it updated everytime with excellent source of information.

My wife and me had our AOS interview yesterday through marriage.
I was a F1 status, I stopped going to school since I met my wife and I didn't go to school for 1 year and 6 months. I still had a visa and my I20 until 31 dec 2010. I filled the application with my wife around January 15 2011 and yesterday we had our interview.
We arrived there on time and waited more than an hour. I noticed that couples that arrived after we entered the waiting room, came in first for an interview. We were called last.
Interview began with asking basic questions, showing ID's and than he asked my wife how we met. Shortly after, he focused on time gap between my last day in college and present date. He was asking a lot of questions why I was doing for almost two years. I explained that I was having difficulties addopting, I was also changing a major and I also met my wife. I told him that life, sometimes, goes into some other directions we cannot predict.
He was angry and he had an attitude. He told me after he needs to talk to my wife privately for 10 min and that I should wait outside. He talked to her for about 30 min. He called me in later and ask me the same questions. I knew almost everything, there were some different answers in two questions but they all made sense. He asked about everyting (our place, food, her friends,my friends, family, plans etc). He asked for evidence, we had bank account, uttilities, joint tax return, lease agreement, letters from employers.
The second part of the interview was more relaxed. He didn't ask me about school anymore and had better attitude with me. He also smiled few times when I was telling him some stories with my wife and me. He was also strict all the time but more relaxed and polite than at the begining of the interview.
I really can't tell what can will happen since the first 20 minutes I didn't like at all and I was happy with our finishing part of the interview since we talked about us and some general every day stuff.
At the end, he took my I94 but he didn't take my EAD ( I have combo card with EAD and AP).
He said at the end that application is still pending since they need more background checks for me. He sad I will receive letter in 30 days. Maybe there will be a green card, maybe there will be a reason for denial. That's what he said. He also gave me a paper with following:

Your application permanent residence status is pending for the reason checked below:
"Your case is awaiting completition of all background checks to determine your eligibility. Please allow 30 days.

He also put with his pencil "CR-6" on this paper.

Right now I really don't know what to think. He didn't give me any hope and I believe there is a hope.

This was my experience, it wasn't great but it wasn't bad as well. Hope this will help some of you.
    Good luck everyone!

I never put priority date on my application.
Btw, my green card arrived on June 15th, 7 days after the AOS interview.
I still can't believe how fast was the whole process.
