I 485 with previous employer

I worked with company A till 2008, they filed for green card and my I-140 was approved with priority date of mar'07.

I am with company B now and they will apply for green card (PERM) in next 2-3 months. I heard somewhere that as my priority date has become current, i can file I-485 on my own based on previous approved application.

Does anyone has done anything similar and had success.
