  • Help,I485 notice returned by USPS as undelivered

    Can anybody help,
I live in NJ with my husband. We both got the asylum status in April 2010. I was the one who applied and he got it as a husband.
I filed I 485+ I 131( travel Doc) on Jun 5, 2011. Got 2 confirmation letters in 2 weeks, followed by the fingerprint notice letter for I 131 on Jun 20, 2010. Jul 5, 2011 i got an email update on my I-485 application saying:
On JUn 23, 2011 the USPS returned the notice we last sent you on I 485 case as undelivered. This may have serious affects on your case. PLS call Customer service to update your address for this notice to be resend.

I called the same day and explained everything. Got the conformation # for my call and was told to wait for a letter withing 30 days.

    Jul 29, 2011 I received a letter saying:
    Dear...,
On JYl 5, 2011 you contacted us about your case. Some of the key info:
    My A#
    Recepient#
    refferal IF#
Type of service requested: NOn- delivery or other notice
The status of this request is:
Due to a glitch in our system, when a correction is made to an application case, a notice is generated showing a document was mailed, and returned to this office as undelivered, which is in error. We r sorry for any inconvenience.
+ sm info about the fact that i have to notify USCIS if i move.

My husband got his fingerprints taken for his I-485 on luj 16, and im still waiting for a notice. I know it has only been only 2 month, but this letter situation scares me.
BTW i left US for like a month in between I got asylum granted and sent I-485 application. May that be a reason why i didnt get the fingerprint letter yet?

Did anybody have the same situation?
Thank you for any info and help=)

AM little confused as to your question but did you move? Did you file an AR-11 change of address form? And how could you have left the US ? Did you have AP card? If it has only been 2 months also you would need to wait 4 months till you got any sort of answer of approval of I-485.
From what you are saying there has been a glitch in their system but if you moved then it would have gone to your old address.

sorry my mistake, should have written Confirmations of acceptance of the applications I 485 and I 131.
Yes i left the country. When i got asylum status in August 2010, along with new I-94, i applied for a traveling document( as it is allowed to do that). And i got a visa to Spain, which they put in traveling document, and went to Europe for a month.
And as asylee, i had to wait 1 year from the moment i was granted the asylum till the moment i filed i 485 application.
I did not move and did not file any AR-11.
My question was if anybody had the same undelivered situation? And may that mistake affect my application in any way( let say take longer etc.)? As i said my husband already got his fingerprints taken, plus my girlfriend in NY, who filed I 485 2 weeks after me, has the appointment for this week. and i am still waiting.

In that case just a glitch and you wait as no one has any idea how and why some get info before others. Leave it another 2 weeks then make some calls to USCIS on your status.
