Name mismatch in Passport and Marriage Certificate

My surname in the marriage certificate does not match with the one in the passport. This happened by mistake.

I am planning to apply for Green Card. What would be the best way to deal with this situation.

Why does it not match? Go down to the clerk where you received marriage cert and see if they will change it for you. Is it your correct name on marriage cert or wrong and your passport is correct yes?
