  • My own journey towards been a perm resident

    Hello,

First of all I want to say this site as been a great resource for me while I was going through the process of filing for my i-130 and i-485. I didn't have to hire any lawyer and I filled out my application strictly based off the information available on this site. Big kudos to the resources, info available on here.

Now I am going to write a very detailed info on here to help people that are in very similar situation and are scared, confused and don't know what to do.

I came to this country on a f1 visa in 2002 and I was struggling with my academics badly and finally dropped out of college in 2007. Big mistake people, never ever drop out of school except the situation is very dire. It is very hard to get back on track academically once you drop out from my personal point of view. I digress, now back to the story at this point, I was working without any work authorization and permit. So that meant, I was out of status as well and as a result my driving license was revoked due to residency status. I couldn't go back to school because, I would have to re apply to get reinstated back to f1 status. My biggest fear was since i already had bad grade big possibility I would be denied and make myself very vulnerable since I was outta status, so I never did.

Fast forward to April 2010, I stupidly got a DWI while driving without a DL and got arrested with an attempt to provide the cop with a falsified info. At this point, I was scared because I thought this is the end for me. I am definitely going to get deported once they check my immigration status. However I luckily got released and went on to plead guilty in court and got community service. I think my saving grace was because, I had tried to go back to school and take few classes from a nearby community school.

It pays to have a girlfriend who isn't just there for the good times but just in your corner. No matter what you are going through. She stood by me, when I was completely lost and a complete bum. I am talking, no job, college drop out and quite frankly not til this day. I can't understand or comprehend while she was still in my corner til this very day. Some people just come in your life just to help and give your life focus and purpose.

We got married and yes I am still owing her a big fat rock on her fingers. The marriage ceremony in March and she got naturalized in April 2011.

Fast forward to the Interview, My wife was taken first for Interview. I was called shortly and Yes I was only asked where I met my wife and to verify for my home address. The Interviewer actually said "She didn't even know what to ask me". She didn't even take any or ask to see any docs, pics that I came with. I went home looked online and I was approved.

    GLORY BE TO GOD.

    The process went as follows;

    Filed i-130/i-485/i-745 ---- april 15th, 2011
Received Notice of Action form 1070a --- May 13th, 2011
    Recieved fingerprint notification - June 15th, 2011
    Biometrics Done - june 29th, 2011
recieved EAD card - jul 7th,
recieved Inteview letter - jul 14th
    Interviewed - Aug 25th.
Recieved Welcome letter - Aug 29th
Recieved Perm Card - Sept 2nd.

As at the time, I filed for my papers I wasn't in school even when I went for the interview I wasn't enrolled neither. It honestly depends on your documents and the interviewer if they are going to press on the issue on why u not in school if that was ur primary reason for been here in the first place. Sorry for the late response.
