Use another lawyer to file AOS for wife?

My priority date is current in October bulletin but my wife is abroad and cant make it back for 2 months. She is on H4 and am on H1B.

I can either wait for her or have the company lawyers apply for my AOS. Am worried that waiting for 2 months will mean more risk of losing my job and having to start from scratch.

Questions:
1) Are the two AOS applications separate or do they have to be applied at the same time
2) If I apply for AOS now and then apply for her as soon as she is back can I use my own lawyer
3) Is it risky for me to apply right away
4) How much is the average lawyer fees for the AOS application
