  • Interview Question married on tourist visa

    Hi all,
    I came here on a tourist visa (with no intention to stay) but got married to my boyfriend now husband who I have dated for over 5 years (met online and have been here multiple times) so no problem proving bonafide marriage.

    My questions are;

    Is the answer "he proposed and I said yes, and we decided to marry to start our lives together sooner because we know we want to be together and tired of the distance enough as to why we got married instead of K1 fiancee visa Process or would it trigger a lot of questioning

    Also, he the US citezen is unemployed, is a student and we are living with his parents (who are also the affadits of support. Would they deny us because of his lack of employment? He is looking for work.

    Im very nervous about the interview and just trying to be the best prepared
    Thankyou for everyone who has posted in this site, your help has been invaluable!

    A lot of times they don't even bring it up. I've read a lot of interview reviews and people say they didn't really care. He proposed, you decided to marry. Skip the K1 reference. Answer questions truthfully without a lot of extra explaining or giving extra information they didn't even ask about. If you had a fancy wedding, they might wonder how you put that together so fast if it wasn't planned in advance. They often keep a couple of photos from your wedding for the file.

    Support: Husband fills out an I -864 even if he has to write unemployed and zero income. Then the parent does the same form and provides tax return, proof of income and proof of citizenship. Read the form instructions. Husband's unemployment should not be a problem if you have a joint sponsor.

      Thankyou for replying!

      I think I wont mention knowing about the K1. We have sent our immigrations forms out after checking and double checking, received a text message that they received it and just waiting for the receipt to come in the mail. I don't think we posted proof of citizenship for the parents (affadits) but they submitted their tax returns, and my husband when filling out his part put in an extra page explaining why he currently had no income

      The marriage was a simple small ceremony with just his immediate family members present but we have plans to have a bigger ceremony (or a second wedding if you will) when we have the money and can arrange it with my side to come over. That is no issue right? There are pictures of the ceremony.Other than that I think we are good to go!

        You will likely get a request for evidence on the I-864. One of the requirements of joint sponsor is being a US citizen or permanent resident. So you have to prove that with a US birth certificate, US passport bio page, greencard---photocopies of those documents are okay..

        Perfect! A small, quickly planned ceremony. Take a few photos of it. to the interview. They don't require a fancy ceremony to approve AOS as long as you were legally married.
