  • Asylee filling I-485

    I have two questions:
1)On the first page of I-485, the last filling of Part 1 "Expires on (mm/dd/yyyyy)", what should I put? I assume asylum status is for indefinite period?
2)On the second page, Part 3 - "Were you inspected by a U. S. immigration Officer?"
What does inspection mean here? Immigration Officer only asked very limited questions, is it considered "inspection"?

Thank you for your kind time!

I don't know what they are using for asylees now, but the old I-688 cards had an expiration date on them. If you have a temporary resident asylum document write the expiration date in that space. If the document does not have an expiration date on it then write "N/A" in the space. You will be required to submit a photocopy of the document with the I-485 anyway and they will be comparing it it with their records.

If you were you landed by an immigration officer then you were inspected. If you sneaked across the border, were smuggled in, or used **** documents to enter then you were not. "Inspection" means that you were processed by an immigration officer when you last entered the country. They don't care what questions were asked by the IO, they just want to know that did not enter the country illegally. So, your proof of 'inspection' would be your stamped I-94, and the entry stamp that the IO placed in your passport at whatever air, sea, or land port you arrived to the US.
