If the visa is expired and i-485 is filed and it's in the early stage of proecessing (assume EAD card is not approved) is it possible to stay back in US with out exit the country?

There's a lot of visas and a lot of reasons people file I-485s so be more specific. In general if you leave the US, how are you going to get back in to do your biometrics and interview? with no visa to return on. If you leave, you are abandoning your adjustment of status application in some cases.
