Thanks. I got my GC too. Here's what happened in my case : While I was getting the attestation and apostillization done...which is appx a 45 days process(BTW now it is done...) there wasn't enough time to respond to the RFE. Hence I just got the certificates redone in all English (as there were about 2-3 malayalam words in it).... which makes it alltogether a different certificate though the stamp was still on... .and just got it notarized... Then printed out the stuff in color and responded to the RFE with it. Received my GC within about 3 weeks from then.
"I know am responding to an old thread.

Hi VPASC, can you tell me how to proceed. Details are below. My case is very similar to yours

    Background:
When I applied for I-485, the birth certificate I submitted was a copy of the original one (from a municipality in India). It is original in terms of all seals, stamp and signatures. It is from Kerala state where the birth certificate is right below a Rs.50 stamp paper (original red one). One other thing to note is that the birth certificate was bilingual with the native language as well as English.

    The RFE I got states:
    USCIS is requesting the following:
o Your foreign birth certificate issued by the appropriate civil authority
o Acceptable secondary evidence and a letter from the government or other authority. Secondary evidence my include; church or school records, listing your parents’ names and your date of birth; hospital records of your birth; or other official records indicating a country and record of birth.

    Facts to note:
    - I have verified that Kerala state in India is still issuing Birth Certificates in this format.
    - My parents name is different in my Birth Certificate and Passport (first name remains the same but in some cases there are initials only and in some my mothers surname name is different. - Therefore I had submitted an affidavit that has my parents signatures, they were notarized as well.

--> What I don't understand regarding the RFE is, are they telling me that this is not the official Birth Certificate.
--> I am looking for suggestions or ideas as to how to overcome this situation in terms of what I need to prepare and produce to respond to this time-sensitive RFE. Thank you in advance!"

Hi Deepthi_Jobin , Is your birth certificate bilingual somehow having both English and Malayalam? Please get a birth certificate which is completely in English.

Even I have an original Kerala birth certificate completely in English, issued on a 5 Rupees stamp paper with official seal and signature. I did not get RFE for my birth certificate and my interview is scheduled for next week. Hope it helps!
