I don't really know what to say but I went to an immigration services representative to handle my case(not a lawyer). The person was recognized by the board of immigration appeals from the department of justice and from what he told me, one of the most important documents in filing for adjustment of status through marriage besides the marriage certificate is the copy of your i-94 card and the copy of your passport page with the non-immigrant visa along with the stamp of entry to the U.S. From what he told me , this is not an either or situation, its always beneficial to have both, otherwise you might have to either file additional forms or go through an entirely different path besides just filing the I-485,I-130 etc. On the good side, I've heard of people who are in your situation that entered the U.S. with no legal proof and filed the same paperwork and got it because there was sufficient evidence that their marriage was real. So if i was in your situation, i would give USCIS an explanation to your situation(it really helps a lot) when you decide to apply for adjustment of status.
