  • I-94

Hi all, I entered the United States last year from Dublin, Ireland. In Ireland we go through US immigration prior to boarding our flights. I was traveling on a B-1 Business visa. Before passing immigration I had to have my customs declaration form filled out. I reached the US immigration officer handed him by passport with B-1 visa page open and handed him my declaration form. He than stamped my B-1 visa and wrote B-1 and the date I can stay till (6months). I was not handed a I-94 by the officer. I know some countries get these on planes but flying from Ireland you don't since you will not be dealing with US immigration in the US because you have already done this in Ireland.
My wife and I are now trying to put together I-130 and adjustment of status forms which as for I-94 #. what should I do. Can anyone help.

When you landed in US, what happened you just went outside without going to immigration counter?

I never hear anything like this that the immigration for the US will be done in different country. Some British nationals travelled along with me couple years ago, they also went to immmigration counter at JFK, and they got stamped on passport and I-94.

So please explain the details after you plane landed in USA, and which airport you landed. How much period they stamped for.
For AOS you have to mention which airport you came, is checked by immigration officer etc.

Usually when you land they stamp with the current date and time entered in the USA. (if you are travelling from any country, you have to go through that country's immigration first, then you will be allow to board the plane, and they stamp your passport with exit date and time)
This is international rule, if some thing happened to the plane, the relatives of the passenger can't sue to the country they were tarvelling. If a person got the stamp in different country for the USA and some thing happened to the passenger, their relative can sue to the US government on the basis of the stamp, that he entered th USA and USA should responsable)

This the general rule , may be you're right. so please give us the details.

If you have US immigration stamp on the passport, they also write the I-94 number on passport where they stamp. The stamp like this
    US immigration & ............
    Admitted............
    Visa..........
    I-94...................

let us know the details, so we can guide you the right way.

Hi and thanks for the reply. Ireland is one of only a few countries where you go through U.S immigration in Ireland before you board the plane so when landing in the U.S you don't go through U.S immigration like most countries so when I entered JFK I got my luggage and went on my way. I know most countries have a different route to take but coming from a U.S Immigration Pre Clearence country we have already been through U.S immigration in Ireland.

Looking at my passport now, my B-1 visa has a U.S customs and boarder protection stamp and date and also the officer wrote B-1 and the date the visa is valid till .
No I-94 number or any sign of a staple from one put onto my passport.

      Hope I've explained this enough.

Also the UK does not have pre clearance for U.S immigration like Ireland.

          Hi, Thanks for the information.

In this case you put noun for I-94 no, and if possible attach a explanation with you Visa no, Category, and port of entry and consulate/embassy issued visa.
Attach copies of your passport visa page and US immigration stamp.

If you are filling I-485 you have to enter the information of your visa, and issue consulate, I think.

Its' fine if you don't have I-94, sufficient evidence is enough.
