  • Birth certificate not available

Hello. I have submitted an I-485 for my mother-in-law, and today we received a request for a birth certificate from USCIS - my problem is that she was born in 1936 to unknown parents, and does not have the official birth certificate. Most official records from those times were lost during WWII and are no longer available. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what other documents I could use instead? I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

As per my knowlege (Department of State website) no BC is require for the people born before 1970.
If you have any record to prove her birth it will be great.
Check with your country's local autorities, and get non availibility certificate, if any older friend or relatives are there, take an affidavit stated they know him etc.

Write an explanation letter along with secondry evidences, affidavit/non availibility certificate, School records, medical records etc.
