AOS Sponsor, wife doesn't make enough money

So I'm a F1 student and we're in the process of filling all the forms etc.
My wife made about $9k(after tax) in 2011 which is probably not enough.

my questions
1.She does make more in 2012, does it matter ? because i heard the previous year is important and not the current.
2.If i need a sponsor, how much does he have to make in order to be eligible ?

You can get a co-sponsor who does not need to be related to either of you.
