Hi,
I am an Indian citizen born in Africa. My name at birth registered at the Indian embassy was XXYYYY. When, I was going for my second passport, my name was shortened to YYYY and this was mentioned in the second passport. All documents acquired in India after that mention name YYYY. Unfortunately around five years back I lost my 1st (expired) and 2nd passport and had to file for a new passport (where the loss was mentioned). Now, I am currently in the United States planning for an Adjustment of Status. I am worried that since both passports are lost there is no evidence of my name change, can someone please clarify what can be done in this case?
1. Can I apply for a name change in India mentioning that this is actually an old name change done as a minor but I am "reacquiring official" documentation for that?
2. Can I get my old name mentioned in my current Indian passport at the Indian embassy?
