I-130 apporved, I-485 substiute sponsor

My brother applied I-130 for me and my wife. After approved my brother passed away. I applied and requested that I have been long time in USA, so reinstate I-130 which was approved. It was approved on the basis of humanitarian ground. I applied for status adjustment and had interview. Immigration officer asked me to send her substitute sponsor for my wife and my son. I told her that I am exempted for sponsorship due to I have 40 credit works and I needs to submit the I-864W. I am sponsoring my spouse and son.

She replied I know you are exempted. But I think your wife and son needs substitute sponsor. She asked me ask a lawyer or find out more details on that.

Can any one have similar situation? Can I sponsor my wife and son at the time of Adjustment of Status with me?
How can I find more on that?

Since you were the primary beneficiary and your wife & child are secondary beneficiary, they DO NOT need an I864 maybe just an I-864w..
