  • Inconsistencies in name for Indian Documents

    Hi,
I am planning to file for I-485. I have a few worries regarding inconsistencies in the format of my name in Indian documents. At birth my name registered in my birth certificate was YYYY YYY (e.g. Sai Ramesh). In school, my name was YYY (e.g. Ramesh). In my earlier passports, it was YYYY YYY but now I have maintained it consistently as YYY (e.g. Ramesh). I haven't had to use the birth certificate when I was applying for other visas to the U.S. Can someone please clarify what I can do to handle this situation if USCIS authorities ask about the inconsistencies? Are there any official legal "name change" docs that I need to get from India? Or can I get my birth certificate amended?

The USCIS doesn't deny applications just because all the documents don't match exactly and I doubt that anyone would get problems because of that. On the G-325A it asks for "All Other Names Used" where you can add additional names. If they would ask at the interview, just explain the situation.
