  • Birth certificate and affidavit problem for mother in law

Ok so my wife is canadian. We just got her stamp for change of status as permanent resident. It has been planned, by her brothers (who are already US citizens) and her to bring their mother to the US. The father has passed away and the mother lives alone in Vancouver.

Here is the problem, my mother in law was born in China in the 40s. Birth Certificates were not issued. I read something about an affidavit and there are no relatives that are older than her to even write an affidavit.

What other options do we have?

She immigrated to Canada in the early 90s. But when asked if she had to provide proof of birth, she can't remember. More than likely her husband handled all the details and possibly used a lawyer.

Can Canada provide something then? She has a passport and drivers license but those are not used as an affidavit or birth certificate.

    What can we do?

    Thanks

In same situation as many. Please share what you did/plan to do. Do we know status of many others who dealt with this before & what happened
