  • Have L-1 through work, applied for GC through marriage ... can I change jobs?

Hi there - I am in a tricky situation that I wanted to get some advice on. I have a L-1 visa though work. I recently got married to an American and did not get a fiance visa as at the time I did not need it as I had a work visa. I have applied for a GC but waiting to get the interview date sorted.

I want to change jobs but need to confirm a few things:

    - I presume I cannot change jobs under the L-1 visa as it is linked to my employer, right?
    - Can I change jobs while waiting for GC to go through?
    - Any other suggestions to get this sorted quickly? Not sure if I can still apply for fiance visa and how long that takes....

I appreciate any and all help here.

    Thanks

    1. Right
    2. Yes - if you also applied for an EAD and such an EAD was approved & sent to you.
    3. Wait for your GC application to go through. The problem is that if you move to a different job on EAD, and then your I-485 is denied - you're basically nowhere.

If you have a bona fide marriage then you shouldn't experience any issues with your AOS.
