Line of questions: I was the petitioner and my wife the AOS applicant
1. Asked the interpreter what her name was
2. Asked the interpreter what relationship she had to my wife
3. Asked the interpreter where she was born:
4. Asked the interpreter if she was a legal resident or naturalize citizen
5. Asked the interpreter how she became legalized
6. Asked the interpreter if she spoke English (Interesting because this was already established via the initial line of questions)
The officer then set some rules and explained that she would ask my wife some questions first and that I could not any shape or form answer, make sounds, gestures, or facial expressions during this time.
7. Asked my wife for her Date of Birth
8. Asked my wife, interpreter and myself for Government Issued Identification,
9. Asked for her passport of entry. Isabel responded by providing a current passport (not the original one of entry) and the I-94 form.
10. Asked My wife why she did not have the original expired passport
11. Answer: I misplaced it and could not find it
12. Asked My wife that she wanted to understand how she had the I-94 form and not the original passport.
13. Answer: the passport originally was her only means of identification and thus she removed the I-94 for safe keeping to prevent the possibility of loosing it as she knew it was important. (officer seemed satisfied with this answer)
14. Asked My wife and I why it took us so long to file
Answered accordingly – applied for AOS 3 years after marriage
15. Asked if we had previously filed
Answered: no that this is the first time. (office then called another staff person and asked if he could check the system for any previous fillings, he took a copy of a document and left never to be seen by us again)

17. Answered: our families (parents) where neighbors in Mexico some years back, and that our families had known each other year prior to us meeting and that my family including myself would visit our hometown from time to time
18. Asked My wife if this marriage was arranged for purpose of legalization
Answer: NO
19. Asked me if this was fraudulent marriage, and proceeded to comment that a fraudulent marriage was serious offense
Answer by me: Absolutely not
20. Asked My wife for our wedding date
A: My wife provided the correct date
21. Asked my wife for my date of birth
A: My wife answered correctly
22. Asked My wife for pictures of our wedding
A: My wife asked for which wedding our civil wedding in Mexico or our religious ceremony in California
23. Asked/response to 21: “you were married in Mexico, show me your marriage certificate and translation”
Answer: My wife said yes and I handed the documentation she requested
24. Asked for pictures of both the civil marriage and religious ceremony
A: We handed her both, she then proceeded to review them all
25. Asked where the religious ceremony took place, how many guests, and who the guests were friends of myself or my wife
Answer: both My wife and I answered; about 200 guests, friends and family of both of us
26. Asked My wife to show pictures of her family from the religious ceremony, specifically her parents.
27. Asked for any other pictures
A: We provided her about a dozen other photos of various time periods and events.
28. She then turned her attention to me asked several questions… asked: What is your wife’s date of birth
Answered correctly

29. Asked: what is your wife’s mother first name and what is your wife’s father fist name
A: I answered correctly
30. Asked for supporting documentation with both our names on the documentation
Answer: Provided medical insurance information, bank account documents and phone bill.
31. Asked for rental/lease documentation
Answer: we don’t rent we own our home.
32. Asked: who was on title of home
Answered: Myself and my father because I bought the home prior to our marriage
33. Asked who was my employer and what my position was
Answered accordingly
34. Asked if I had life or retirement account through work and if My wife was the beneficiary
Answer: Yes both and yes My wife was the beneficiary. She did not ask for documentation proof
35. last question she asked for if we had our health and dental insurance cards with us and if I obtain it through my work
Answer: yes and we provided our insurance cards --she made copies.
Over all I think there were two factors that satisfied the agent
1. our answers were all clear and direct with no hesitation and of course correct
2. our wedding (religious ceremony and reception) pictures really seem to change officers' demeanor to be more friendly. We took our entire wedding photo album.
3. The fact that I had my wife as a beneficiary to my life insurance I think made a big difference too
Have all documents you can possible have to prove your legitimate marriage.
