  • I-485 no update since interview - is there a reason to worry?

He didn't take EAD nor I-94. Just made a statement that made it seem like he is satisfied. He took some pictures, bank statement, car insurance, leases, creditcard bill, and mutual cell bill. I would not be worried aside from knowing that people in the same location (Baltimore) who had their interview after us already wrote that they got approved.

We also didn't get any letter...

Also, is it true they run the name check and background check on you after the interview? does it involve any authorities at your home country?

May be the officer don't have authority to approve and his supervisor have a look on your file. May be the officer have questions regarding your case (or just mean -Some time they just don't wanna approve).

Did he gave you any letter explaining when you will get decision informing you to contact after 6o or 90 days if you don't get any decision contact the USCIS etc.
Did he took your I-94, and EAD and some pics from your album.

Nothing can do any thing just wait. ( Like in my case the officer send a RFE after a 9 months 7 days, after my interview.)

Usually if the IO satisfy he took your I-94 (if not EAD). if you read the forums mostly 90% said the IO took their I-94.
For your question, yes they do Back ground check in your home country also. (My parents told me that when a local PS officers reach and ask the questions about me, my wife and children, what he does etc. When my father asked them why you guys investigating , they told oh may be your son applied for GC in America and we got request for information)

Yes they do back ground check with different agencies other than FBI.

Don't worry, just keep patient and after 30 or 6o day take an info pass and go to your local office or open a Service request. ( But the customer service doesn't open SR , until your case cross the normal processing time for that branch )
You should have a written letter from him.

I also read that a lot of people were asked to mail it to the local office after they got approved. The guy seemed super nice, was laughing with us, making jokes about photos, etc' and when my wife showed a book she made for me and said it's cheesy he said "trust me here you wanna be cheesy this is a good thing" - it's hard to believe that he did not take the I-94 because he had an issue with us.

Is there a way to call and find out about what is the reason a decision was not made yet? I have read people getting answers like "name check" or "IBIS" - could it just be that this specific officer is taking it slow or went on a vacation?

If you want to check is your FBI check is clear here is the info. (keep in mind USCIS Back ground check involves different agencies)

              FBI
              1-304-625-5590
              Option 2 > Option 9

Give your Alien No to the person, he/she will check in the system and let you know if FBI is holding any thing on you.

You can find the alien no on the right hand corner of the receipts. It starts with A0xx xxx xxx. Did you received EAD, on that also the Alien no is there.
The A no is very important all your file in USCIS is maintained on A no. Only one A no to a person applied for Immigration benefits.

Wait for atleast 60 days, then take info pass.
