reentry - reason

I am a GC holder and I am planning to go to India for a year. I am appyling for a reentry permit and I have the following questions:
1. What reason should I state? The main reason for me is to be with my parents for a while. Is there anything wrong in giving the following reason:
To help my aged parents to settle some family issues
Please let me know.
2. Even though I am planning to be there only for a year, can I apply for 2 years just as a precautionary measure?

You can apply for reentry permit for whatever reason you like.

You can apply for 2 years.
