Applying for Green card while family in India

I am on H1A visa since few months in the US (Earlier i was in USA on L1B for 3.5yrs). My wife(on H4) and kid (US born) are in India as they did not travel with me this time to the US due to domestic issues. Now my company is planning to file my Green card.

1. Can apply green card only for me for now and apply GC for my wife when she comes to USA? or
2. Should I apply for green card for my wife as well while she is in India or does she need to come here and apply for both of us together?

Your employer can start the process just for you. Once your priority date is current, you can apply for I-485 in the US. At that time, if your family is in the US , they can apply for their I-485 as well. Otherwise, they can go for immigrant visa from their home country and immigrate to the US.
