Name change after Green Card

Hello all...

My wife hasn't changed her maiden name yet. And her Permanent Resident Card is with her maiden name. She plans to change her name. I have a question:

1. Will she need to re-issue the PR card?
2. How does she go about it?

Any helpful hint is appreciated.

Simply file an application with them and let them know. If they ask for proofs then show them. Simple.

Not Legal Advice:

You need to file the form I-90. You must do this in person at local INS office (you cannot mail it).

Your wife will need to take the following:

1 - Her Birth Certificate and a photocopy of it.

2 - Your Marriage Certificate and a photocopy of it.

3 - Her passport in her married name.

4 - Money Order Made out to "Immigration And Naturalization Service" for $US130 to be drawn on US Bank. They will not take cash.

5 - Her plastic green card in her maiden name.

They will keep the old card and the $130. Your wife will get a stamp in her passport (similar to the one from the Airport but without the Arrival Date). It is valid for a year. If the card does not arrive within 11 months you will have to go back and file a new I-90 and get her passport stamped again.

Depending on where your local INS office is you probably wont be able to make an appointment and you may have to get there around 2am that morning to be sure of being seen that day.

They will keep the photocopies of the Birth and Marriage Certificates. Take the originals so they can compare them.

It's a pretty painless process except the wait. I wasn't joking about that. That really happens.
